Our Commitment to the Community 

• In July 2021, Black Therapists in AZ hosted its first community event, “Meet the Black Therapists in AZ,” which had more than 150 people in attendance. This event was free to the community and included three panel discussions, free refreshments, a mindfulness exercise, a DJ, a raffle for free sessions with a therapists, and a Q&A session. The attendees were able to ask questions and interact with Black mental health professionals.
• In June 2022, Black Therapists in AZ created a directory (www.blacktherapistsinaz.org) to assist our community with locating Black therapists in their community.
• On July 9, 2022, Black Therapists in AZ partnered with Tanner Community Development Corporation (TCDC) to host the free COVID-19 Family Memorial Celebration of Life Dinner. This significant event was for families to honor their loved ones who tragically lost their lives to COVID-19. BTAZ mental health professionals provided emotional support for each family at the event, in which more than 280 people were in attendance.
• In August 2022, Black Therapists in AZ was awarded a grant that allowed them to provide at least 3 vouchers per person for free therapy sessions with a member of the BTAZ coalition. By October, BTAZ had been able to assist 28 individuals/families with their mental health.
